Summary
This position will perform Sustaining Engineering and Cost Savings activities related to the O&M Global Products & Healthcare Services Portfolio. This person will lead engineering activities on small projects and may support senior engineers on larger programs. Responsibilities will include design, development, commercialization of new products, and sustaining engineering activities. This person helps define product requirements, prototype concepts, develop manufacturable designs and test product to meet defined specifications. The job requires working collaboratively with cross functional teams including Marketing, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, and Plant Engineering.
Core Responsibilities
- Typically leads workstreams of more complex projects or is the primary leader for small to mid-size projects
- Works independently with minimal level of guidance from more senior engineers and management
- Understands a wide range of technical principles, theories and techniques applied to design and manufacturing; incorporates leading-edge thinking into projects and plans
- Deals with change and ambiguity on projects by proposing options that result in potential solutions
- Makes technical decisions with minimal assistance; seeks assistance as appropriate from Team Leader or senior members of the team.
- Consistent ability to make sound decisions under pressure while aligning with cross-functional team members
- Demonstrates experience in executing product changes regulated by design control; can translate customer requirements into validatable market requirements and verifiable product requirements; interacts with clinicians to gain feedback on existing products and identify possible improvements
- Provide guidance and work direction to lower-level engineers
- Coaches peers to improve their skills and outcomes within R&D in a specific area of expertise; may supervise/lead technicians, co-ops or interns
- Documents work appropriately within defined procedures
- Reviews test protocols and reports for accuracy and completeness and at times generates and analyzes test data and reports to determine if designs meet functional and performance specifications
- Create and document intellectual property according to established company procedures
- Develops effective schedules with collaboration from cross-functional team and management; independently follows agreed upon path/strategy/priority with minimal follow up or direction; independently makes decisions; obtains appropriate buy-in and ownership of tasks from other groups as needed; plans tasks that have multiple variables and are not well defined and drives necessary decisions
- When changes result in significant conflicts at a cross-functional team level, develops options and team recommendation for alignment; secures management support for the resolution
Qualifying Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science related field as well as 2 years industry experience. (Will consider co-op as applicable experience)
- The candidate should have strong project management, analytical, and communication skills, along with the ability to work well with a diverse group of teammates
- Advanced understanding of statistical analysis tools and software
- Previous industry experience working on development or change management of class I or II medical devices
- Experience with Medical Devices, Design Controls/Design History File preferred
- Knowledge of Quality System Regulations (Design Control and Process Validation) compliant with the FDA and other regulatory agencies
- Previous experience resolving technical issues and implementing solutions
- Ability to interface effectively with health care professionals and medical device customers
- Ability to travel both domestically and internationally (must have the ability to obtain a passport) Less then 25%.
