The N552 work program encompasses United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) Headquarters, Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), Component Commands, Theater Commands, and International SOF, which work collectively to carry out a global, multi-domain mission that spans seabed to space.Our work includes the development of bespoke technologies for SOF operators, as well as systems engineering and integration activities that bolster SOF's decisive advantage.Emerging threats—such as unmanned aerial systems (UAS), transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and intelligence-sharing gaps—are creating new opportunities for MITRE and the N552 team in Colorado Springs, where we are engaging with SOCNORTH on their newly designated counterterrorism mission to enhance intelligence-sharing, operational coordination, and technology integration to effectively counter these threats and strengthen national security.
The intern will work as part of a team of interns and early career staff to solve problem sets for the Department of Defense. Responsibilities will likely include:
- Research and analysis of open-source materials and publicly available data to understand and inform DoD problem sets.
- Technology development, to include basic testing, debugging, and documentation of software or hardware systems under supervision.
- Maintain organized records of project deliverables and research findings.
Basic Qualifications
- Must be a student enrolled full-time pursuing an accredited degree seeking program in Aerospace Engineering or a related degree program.
- Must continue to be enrolled full-time the semester following the internship.
- Knowledge of aerospace engineering theory.
- Sustained excellence in academic performance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience having applied aerospace engineering learning to an internship or research/lab position.
- Proven ability to work independently to learn new aerospace engineering technologies, techniques, processes, languages, and best practices.
- Experience with modeling tools (e.g. SysM, MATLAB)
- Advanced Math through Calc II coursework.
- Demonstrated interest in serving the public.
