BWXT is seeking an IT Intern (year-round) for its Lynchburg, VA location.
The IT Intern works as a member of the Information Technology team to extend 1st and 2nd level support to local and remote end users. This position deals with issues or problems that often require thoughtful evaluation before coming up with approaches or solutions. This position must develop and maintain good working relationships, resolve problems, and positively influence others to successfully produce customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1st and 2nd level end-user remote support.
- Provides a high degree of customer satisfaction, functioning as a customer liaison for IT related issues.
- Proactively tracks and follows up on complex customer issues ensuring that all incidents are resolved to customer's satisfaction.
- Monitors opened tickets assigned to the Service Desk to verify correct assignment, ensure timely customer follow-up and resolution.
- Manages security groups, computers, and users in Active Directory.
- Analyzes and solves all problems relating to: PCs, laptops, printers, phones, tablets, cabling, AD services, DNS, DHCP and related end user devices.
- Work with the IT Operations management to determine strategic direction for the desktop environment, including the evaluation and testing of new technologies.
- Troubleshoot and support proprietary software programs as well as third party software and applications.
- Develop work procedures, Standard Operating Procedures, and end-user technical documentation relating to the desktop environment.
- Carry out audit tasks to ensure secure systems and management oversight is performed to meet SOX and internal audit commitments.
Required Skills/Capabilities:
- High School Diploma with current enrollment and completed college coursework in Information Technology is required.
- Ability to identify, research, and resolve desktop system issues in a timely manner.
- Technical proficiency in areas relating to computer hardware, computer operating systems and desktop applications.
- Commitment to ongoing training and new system implementation.
- Demonstrated ability to manage priorities and handle multiple tasks successfully.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple complex situations independently.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with customers, co-workers and Administration.
- Ability to make contacts with other departments, requiring tact and judgment to ensure effective support.
- Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance is required.
Pay: $20.75 - $34.75
The starting hourly rate for this position in VA is expected to be $20.75 - $34.75 per hour. The hourly rate offered is based on local job market factors and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
