The Hershey Company is seeking a summer intern to support the Analytical Chemistry and Microbiology areas. This position will require working in the Technical Center. This position provides an excellent opportunity to gain meaningful experience in the Food Safety and Food Quality functions.
Overview of Internship and Potential Projects
Food Chemistry
- Sample preparation
- Support manufacturing/innovation projects through benchtop chemistry testing
- Document results into database
- Complete chemical inventory – add inventory to new database
Food Microbiology
- Media preparation
- Manufacturing/innovation project sample preparation
Required Skills
- Strong analytical skills, problem solving skills and excellent interpersonal skills
- Verbal and written communication skills are critical in this assignment
- Strong computer skills
- Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Able to effectively address all levels within the organization
- Strong influencing and leadership skills with the ability to challenge decisions and facilitate change
- Exemplary organizational skills
- Ability to respond to a diversity of requests
- Ability to work in a team environment and be able to assist in different areas where needed
- Must be detailed oriented
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- The successful candidate must be capable of working independently after receiving direction
- Comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) while working in the production and office areas
Requirements
- Enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program
- Preferred declared majors are food science, chemistry, biology, or a similar discipline
- A minimum overall GPA of 2.8 is required, an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred
- Reliable transportation
