Primary Purpose
The Transition-to-Practice (TTP) Nurse Residency supervisor is a professional nursing leader who oversees and manages all aspects of the comprehensive program(s) for transitioning new graduate registered nurses (RNs) from the academia into the professional work environment, from a novice to a competent professional RN. Position is responsible for the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of the TTP Program including programmatic guidance for the post-graduate nurse, preceptor, mentor and other TTP program support team members.
Minimum Specifications
Education: Must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Preferred Master of Science in Nursing.
Experience: Must have three (3+) years of professional nursing experience in specialty area. Instructional teaching experience, both formal and informal.
Certification/Registration/Licensure
- Must have current RN license or valid temporary permit with the Texas Board of Nursing or valid Compact RN license.
- Must be certified as a CPR Instructor or obtain within six months of employment/placement in classification.
- Must have current healthcare provider BLS for Healthcare Providers certification from one of the following:
- American Heart Association
- American Red Cross
- Military Training Network
Skills or Special Abilities
- Ability to make or approve effective hiring and termination decisions.
- General computer skills, including but not limited to: Microsoft Office Tools, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, performance management, electronic medical documentation, and email.
- Must be able to communicate thoughts clearly; both verbally and in writing.
Responsibilities
- Develops specialty content and utilizes current resources in building the program curriculum to ensure that it meets the needs of the post-graduate RN programs. Incorporates input from employee, preceptors and stakeholders encouraging the use of varied and creative teaching methods. Participant needs assessments and competencies are assessed periodically.
- Manages progression of nurse resident including scheduling and phase progression.
- Implements ongoing evaluations of programs to determine achievement of education outcomes.
- Uses valid and reliable methods to measure processes and outcomes and involves learners and stakeholders in the evaluation process. Revises learning activities based on evaluation data and disseminates the results of the learning activities to stakeholders. Selects education content, materials, and techniques that can appeal to a diverse target audience in a positive learning environment.
- Maintains records of educational activities in accordance with organizational, departmental, and regulatory standards.
