This role will be responsible for designing, building, and enhancing global Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) to support laboratory operations, with a primary focus on SampleManager configuration, workflow development, and data and reporting architecture. The candidate will possess strong technical proficiency with laboratory systems including LIMS (SampleManager), Power BI, and analytical instrument software, enabling consistent, accurate, and aligned data, processes, and reporting across multiple labs and geographies.
What You’ll Do for Us:
- LIMS / SampleManager (Build First)
- Design and build SampleManager workflows, lifecycle processes, and excel to LIMS macro integrations.
- Develop configuration to support integrations with instruments, barcoding, and other lab systems.
- Standardize and align global LIMS processes and configuration.
- Power BI / Data Architecture
- Maintain Power BI data models based on star‑schema and dimensional modeling principles to remain in sync with and aligned to developing LIMS architecture.
- Define and maintain master data structures and metadata standards.
- Process & Delivery
- Apply global standards, reusable patterns, and consistent design approaches.
- Work within an Agile‑light model for iterative development and rapid feedback.
- Provide limited second‑level support as needed (non‑primary responsibility).
Functional Skills
- SampleManager LIMS Expertise: Strong skills in configuration, workflow design, lifecycle management, and macro‑based integrations.
- Systems Integration: Ability to design and implement integrations with instruments, barcoding systems, and other laboratory technologies.
- Data Modeling & Reporting: Solid understanding of dimensional modeling, star‑schema design, and Power BI data architecture and report development.
- Master Data & Metadata Management: Competence in defining, structuring, and governing master data and metadata aligned to LIMS and reporting needs.
- Programming & Scripting: Proficient with SQL and VB and familiar with PSQL and VGL with the ability to quickly learn additional languages and scripting tools as needed.
Key Duties / Responsibilities
- Design and build SampleManager LIMS workflows, lifecycle processes, and integrations including instruments, barcoding, and lab reporting.
- Build and maintain Power BI data models and reports aligned with LIMS architecture and master data standards.
- Write and execute UAT scripts for LIMS and reporting enhancements; document results/defects and maintain traceability to requirements.
- Rework and refine configurations/builds based on UAT outcomes and stakeholder feedback; repeat UAT as needed until acceptance criteria are met.
- Provide limited second‑level support for configuration, data, and workflow issues (non‑primary responsibility).
- Train and instruct analysts and scientists on new workflows, system changes, and reporting tools.
- Ensure compliance with Quality Management System (QMS) requirements through documentation, training, and participation in audits.
- Perform data audits to verify accuracy and integrity using database queries, trend analysis, and statistical checks.
Communication Complexities
- Maintain regular communication with laboratory personnel, including Laboratory Managers and team members, to understand workflow and operational needs.
- Collaborate with stakeholders such as IT Services, Technical Functions, and external vendors to share system requirements, testing outcomes, and performance updates.
- Gather and interpret information from IT Services and other partners to assess impacts on laboratory operations.
Innovation
- Recommend improvements to laboratory workflows, processes, and methods through new or enhanced technical approaches.
- Apply sound judgment in routine and moderately complex problem‑solving situations, identifying root causes and proposing practical solutions.
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a technology-focused field such as Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Data Science, or Computer Engineering, with demonstrated ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.
OR
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, such as Analytical Chemistry, Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, with experience in various LIMS disciplines.
Related Work Experience
- 5+ years of experience in a laboratory environment within the food, pharmaceutical, chemical, or related scientific industry.
- Experience with beverage technology, flavor chemistry, or similar applied science disciplines is desirable.
- Hands‑on LIMS experience (preferably SampleManager) is highly desirable, especially involving configuration, workflow development, or system enhancements.
- Experience with technical troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and resolving system or data issues is desirable.
- Experience working with laboratory instrument software, data systems, or integrations is a plus.
- Prior involvement in data modeling, reporting tools, or analytics (e.g., Power BI) is advantageous.
Demonstrated proficiency in applying scientific calculation principles, including correct unit conversions, order of operations, rounding conventions, and significant figures to ensure accurate and defensible laboratory data.
