Hinge Bio is seeking a creative and accomplished antibody engineering scientist to support discovery and advancement of immunotherapy candidates to IND-filings for autoimmunity and oncology indications. The position provides the opportunity to join acreative, energetic and innovative research and development team. This is a “hands on” role reporting to the Senior Director of Preclinical Development and is expected to contribute to all aspects of the programs from early discovery to development.
The position is based at Hinge Bio’s labs and offices in Redwood City, CA, with the expectation of regular on-site presence.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead design and in-house / outsourced production of Hinge Bio’s proprietary GEM-DIMER™ molecules, antibodies, Fc fusion proteins in collaboration with Protein Sciences Group.
- Work as part of a cross-functional team, characterizing leads with respect to protein purity, quality, binding activity, endotoxin, biological activity, etc.
- Interpret complex results and provide input supporting the discovery and preclinical development of GEM-DIMER™ candidates.
- Author publications and patents as required and present their research at scientific / medical conferences.
- Author / Co-Author reports contributing to IND filings.
- Ensure integrity, quality, and timely delivery of results.
Required Qualifications
- A Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Immunology, or related field with at least or 5-7 years of experience, preferably in industry.
- Hands on experience / advanced understanding of antibody engineering and protein purification methods.
- Knowledge and background in research and development of antibody therapeutics, experience coordinating CRO interactions.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience working within a collaborative, matrixed team - capable of effective project management including setting goals and priorities, planning, and executing research.
- Demonstrated scientific productivity as evidenced by a strong record of advancing drug development candidates, and/or through high-impact publications, presentations, and patents.
- A ‘get things done’ mentality, proactive, enthusiastic, and goal oriented.
Bonus Experience
- Experience with bi-specific or multi-specific antibody constructs.
- Knowledge of Fc receptor biology and applications to antibody design and therapeutic mechanisms.
- Understanding of antibody physicochemical properties and developability considerations / assays.
- Experience with biologics discovery related to autoimmune, oncology, and infectious disease indications.
- Experience in antibody discovery campaigns (phage display / yeast display, immunization, B cell cloning, hybridoma).
- Experience with antibody humanization methods.
- Knowledge of target biology in one or more therapeutic areas.
- Working knowledge of analytical assays [affinity (SPR, ELISA), SEC, MS, stability assays].
- Proficiency in flow cytometry methods.
