Position: Manager, Design + Innovation, Beauty
Department: Design + Innovation
Work Location: Edgewater, NJ, Hybrid (work 3 days onsite)
Hybrid Schedule: Helen of Troy associates enjoy the advantages and flexibility of a hybrid working model, allowing for in office 3 days minimum, and remote 2 days. Any changes to this working model would be communicated accordingly.
What you will be doing:
This is a global position supporting all regions and brands of the organization. The Design + Innovation team plays a key role in strategic pipeline definition, consumer insight research and creative direction, management, and execution of all new product launch initiatives.
A key function of this position involves collaborating with brand managers and engineering program managers across the global and regional marketing organizations of the company. The cross-functional teams plan and execute programs within a multi-year product roadmap.
The Design Manager serves as champion of design quality and consistency acting as consultant to the cross -functional teams. The Design Manager has driven experiences that are appropriate for beauty, fashion, and luxury brands.
- Ownership of design process
- Product design consistency with brand language appropriate with beauty, fashion, and luxury brands.
- Optimized user experience and consumer delight across physical and product-related digital user experiences (apps, etc.)
- Managing outsourced design agencies
- Participating in and translating consumer/ethnographic insights into design opportunities.
- Ability to understand and empathize with beauty and fashion consumers
- Managing, identifying and applying significant innovation
- Assessing the appropriate level of design effort vital to achieve objectives
- Generate ID briefs communicating project vision and design intent to company and agencies
- Manage project schedules and budgets
- Manage design control documentation including color/material specifications
Skills needed to be successful in this role:
- Ability to align design solution with strategic business objectives
- Ability to lead initiatives, spot opportunities, and redirect where vital
- Strong awareness of global design trends, Beauty, and fashion trends.
- Strong problem-solving skills—program constraints and requirements can be sophisticated and require innovative solutions
- Strong communication (writing, speaking and presentation skills)—ability to assertively sell ideas based on proven rationale and objectives
- Ability to champion, educate and consult regarding benefits of design
- Organizational skills (able to set a plan to reach final deliverables)
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in related profession/field
- 6+ years in related experience
- Firm or consultancy experience
- Proven understanding of manufacturing, materials & processes
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite (PowerPoint)
- Portfolio in the form of PDF or website along with the application.
- Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding of the Beauty world
- 2D CAD skills: Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
- 3D CAD skills: SolidWorks, ProEngineer
- Digital UX product experience(like apps) where it relates to physical products
- Strong visualization and sketching skills (“Da’Vinci sketches”)
