Job Description
GENERAL STATEMENT FOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Under the direction of the Blood Transfusion Service Supervisor and Associate Director responsible to assist and perform professional,
technical and administrative work of the Blood Transfusion Service to provide relevant data for patient management.
MAJOR DUTIES:
ABO,Rh and Antibody Screen
Cross-match
Antibody Detection/ldentification
Pooling Platelets and Cryoprecipitate
Thaw Plasma Frozen P24 hours/Plasma Solvent Detergent, Cryoprecipitate
Titers
QC of Reagents/Monitor the exception reports
Maintain sufficient laboratory inventory
Monitor each procedure performed in the Blood Transfusion Service for the compliance with the clinical laboratory standards and inform/assist the Supervisor, Associate Director, BTS Director, and Chief of Service regarding the state of laboratory testing.
Assist or order (in absence of Supervisor) and maintain sufficient materials and QC/QA and other records pertinent for regulatory compliance.
Ascertain Quality Assurance for all stat clinical testing
Assist Supervisor to review monthly all reports from Wellsky and prepare monthly statistics for blood transfusion Service
Perform other duties as needed
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Demonstrate the interpersonal skills with sensitivity to diversity in the workforce.
Demonstrate skills in all BTS Techniques/Wellsky/EPIC/Cerner and to follow regulatory agencies required standards.
Demonstrate skill and ability in patient/employee/departmental safety issues to maintain safe environment and provide best patient care as well to be
compatible/supportive of the mission of MHC.
Demonstrate knowledge in all Patient care related critical/panic values and effective in creating new ideas/techniques to provide finest in diagnostic
and therapeutic testing.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Valid license as a clinical laboratory technologist, cytotechnologist, or histotechnologist issued by the NYSED.
For Appointment to Levels IV and V
1. In addition to meeting the qualification requirement of Assignment Level II, candidates must also meet one of the qualification requirements of a laboratory supervisor as outlined in Title 10, Section 58-1.4 of the New York Public Health Law.
Special Notes:
Qualifying experience is not limited to New York State.
Candidates that are solely licensed or issued permits to practice as cytotechnologists or histotechnologists may only be assigned work, including supervising personnel performing laboratory work, in a laboratory discipline/specialty appropriate to their license or permit. Candidates that are licensed or hold permits to practice as clinical laboratory technologists may be assigned work, including supervising personnel performing laboratory work, in all laboratory disciplines/specialties.
